Finding Your Model and Serial
The data plate is what everything depends on, and it is usually in one of a few places.
Reach-ins and undercounters: inside the door frame, often on the hinge side, or on the back panel.
Ice machines: inside the front panel, or on the rear of the cabinet.
Walk-ins: check the condensing unit and the evaporator separately. They are frequently different manufacturers, and coverage applies per component rather than to the box as a whole.
Prep tables: inside the cabinet door or beneath the rail.
Photograph the plate rather than writing it down. Serial numbers are long and easy to mistype, and a wrong digit means a wrong coverage answer.

What Coverage Typically Looks Like
| Component | Common commercial pattern |
|---|---|
| Parts | Multi-year term from install or purchase |
| Labor | Often shorter than the parts term |
| Compressor | Frequently an extended separate term |
| Ice machine evaporator | Sometimes an extended term |
| Gaskets and consumables | Usually excluded |
| Damage from lack of maintenance | Usually excluded |
That last row matters more than operators expect. Several manufacturers exclude failures caused by inadequate maintenance, which means a compressor killed by a condenser that has never been cleaned may not be covered even inside the term. Keeping maintenance records is part of protecting a warranty, not just good practice.
Do this before you need it
Walk your equipment once, photograph every data plate, and file the images somewhere findable along with purchase dates. It takes twenty minutes and it turns the coverage question from a scramble into a phone call. Most operators only assemble this information after a failure, which is the worst time to do it.
If Your Brand Is Not Listed
We service many brands outside our authorization list as standard out-of-warranty repair. Authorization affects who can file a claim, not who can diagnose a failed contactor.
Call with the brand and model and we will be straightforward about whether we are the right company for it. If a brand needs its own authorized servicer for a covered repair, we would rather tell you that than take the call.
For more on how authorization works and why it protects your coverage, see our guide on what factory authorized warranty service means.
Why Brand Matters for Diagnosis, Not Just Claims
Authorization affects warranty claims, but manufacturer training affects something more practical: how quickly a technician finds the fault.
Commercial refrigeration brands diverge meaningfully in their control strategies. Defrost initiation and termination logic differs. Error code schemes differ. Component locations, service access, and the sequence for putting a unit into diagnostic mode all differ. Two reach-ins holding the same temperature can require quite different approaches to troubleshoot.
A technician trained on a specific brand knows where that manufacturer puts the defrost sensor, what a given error code actually indicates rather than what it nominally means, and which component on that model line has a known failure pattern. That knowledge routinely takes an hour off a diagnosis, which shows up on your invoice whether or not there is warranty coverage involved.
Ice Machines Deserve Their Own Note
Manitowoc, Scotsman, Ice-O-Matic, and Follett cover most of the commercial ice production in Portland bars and restaurants, and all four are on our authorized list.
Ice machines carry warranty terms that differ from cabinet refrigeration in one important way: the evaporator often has an extended term of its own, separate from the rest of the machine. On a scaled evaporator that has lost production, that distinction decides whether you are looking at a covered component or an out-of-pocket replacement, and the answer depends on whether the failure is judged a defect or the result of inadequate water treatment.
Which is another argument for documented filter changes. Maintenance records are what support a claim on an evaporator, and their absence is what defeats one.
Send Us Your Equipment List
If you would rather have this sorted before something fails, send a list of your commercial refrigeration with model and serial numbers. We will verify coverage across the whole set at once and tell you which units still have protection worth protecting.
