The failures we see most

Commercial refrigeration rarely dies all at once. It drifts. A condenser packs with grease and lint until head pressure climbs and the compressor short-cycles. A defrost termination sensor drifts out of range and the evaporator coil ices over. A thermal expansion valve loses control of superheat and the box holds five degrees warm. Door gaskets flatten, warm air walks in, and the system never gets a chance to cycle off.

Each of those has a different fix and a different price. Guessing costs you either an unnecessary part or a second breakdown two weeks later, which is why we put gauges and a thermometer on the system before we quote anything. Reading superheat and subcooling tells us whether the problem is charge, metering, airflow, or load, and that distinction decides the whole repair.

Refrigerant, compliance, and older equipment

A lot of Portland kitchens run equipment old enough to still be on R-22 or R-404A. Both are being phased down, which means service refrigerant is getting scarcer and more expensive every year. Our technicians hold EPA Section 608 certification and handle recovery and charging to code, and we can talk through whether a retrofit to a lower-GWP blend such as R-448A makes sense for your system, or whether the money is better spent on replacement.

Preventive maintenance instead of emergencies

The cheapest repair is the one that never happens. A preventative maintenance agreement puts your equipment on a quarterly cycle: condenser cleaning, gasket inspection, control verification, head pressure control check, drain-line flushing, and temperature logging you can hand to an inspector. Agreement customers also get priority dispatch and preferential rates when something does fail.
